2x JAS-39 GRIPEN
From the Czech Air Force, we have confirmed the flypast of a pair of JAS-39 GRIPENs during the flight program.
This multi-role combat aircraft forms the backbone of the Czech military aviation. It is the only supersonic aircraft flying in the Czech sky under Czech registration. The Swedish Kingdom leased it to the Czech Republic in 2004. The aircraft from the production of the Swedish-British consortium Saab/British Aerospace is a single-seat single-engine mid-wing aircraft with a simple delta wing. The first prototype took off in 1987, and it entered service with the Swedish Air Force 10 years later in 1997. In the Czech Army, it is the Gripen C/D version.
A significant advantage of this type is the cost-to-performance ratio, making them unbeatable in the European market. Gripen is designed to be constantly in the air and operate outside of bases to effectively guard airspace, even if their base becomes a target. They do not require extensive ground support, and everything is designed for quick action in case of danger. Therefore, it can be said that the JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets are capable of landing and taking off, for example, from short sections of roads and highways. Another advantage of this aircraft is that it can have virtually any armament from various suppliers. In all these aspects, Gripen differs significantly from "fifth-generation" American fighters like the F-35.
The aircraft that will be presented at LEGENDY NEBES 2024 belongs to the Czech Army.
