Zlín XII
The prototype of this light two-seat machine flew for the first time in April 1935, later produced by the Zlín Aircraft Company as a series. The prototype was first equipped with a 27 kW Continental A40 engine, which was later replaced by its Zlín copy with a 26 kW Persy engine. The good flight characteristics and control in both cockpits were successfully used in the training of new pilots, especially during the "1,000 Pilots of the Republic" event. At Zlín XII our pilots managed to successfully compete in a number of domestic and international competitions. A total of 301 aircraft of this type were produced. The colouring of the aircraft was varied from silver, through yellow to red and blue.
The basic parameters of the original Zlín XII directly encouraged the construction of an exact replica in the UL category. The aircraft had a wingspan of 10 m, a length of 7.8 m and a weight of 319 kg. The replica was built by the Method Vlach Aircraft Foundation and the main and only partner of this unique construction was the Historical Flying Club. The replica received a Continental A80 engine. The construction was carried out in the Prague workshop of Ing. Petr Tax and his colleague Ing. Petr Opěla under the supervision of LAA chief engineer Ing. The replica is painted in red "java" colour, which was most typical for the aircraft in aero clubs with the graphic registration OK-HFC, which is supposed to symbolize the Historical Flying Club.
