History of the MIG 15 UTI
The Mig 15UTI serial number 242266 was manufactured by Aero Vodochody, under the license type designation CS-102, with RD-45 engine. The flight of the aircraft took place in Vodochody on 22.4.1955 with a crew consisting of Vlastimil David and Antonín Bartoš. On 17.6.1955 the aircraft was exported to Poland.
In the Polish Air Force, it served as a trainer at 61 LPSzB at the Biała Podlaska base until 22 November 1990. During the service, the cockpit of this aircraft was occupied by a number of outstanding Polish pilots, including the first Polish cosmonaut Mirosław Hermaszewski. After the end of military aviation service, the aircraft was stored and preserved.
In 1994 Mig 15 UTI serial number 242266 was purchased by Mr. Tom Smith and taken to California, where it was registered in March 1996 under the mark N - 41125. Its new home was the airport in Paso Robles CA. The airplane could be admired not only by visitors to the Estrella Warbird Museum of Paso Robles, but also by airplane enthusiasts throughout the United States.
In 2013, the aircraft was purchased by Czech Flying Legends. After many years, Mig returned home to the "Czech skies". The aircraft's camouflage is in Czech colors and bears the number 2514 on the fuselage. This number was worn by the MIG 15UTI from the 30th Sbolp (Fighter Bomber Aviation Regiment), which operated until 1982 at the Hradec Králové airport. The aircraft also bears the characteristic emblem of the city of Ostrava on the nose of the aircraft, just like this Hradec 15. The difference from the original colouring is the "tiger" colouring on the keel, which is the aircraft's claim to cooperation with the NATO Tigers Association.
